xkcd: Lakes and Oceans

I found this comic from XKCD strangely appropriate given that we are headed out to go diving in the Keys next week.  Click here to enlarge.

Don’t worry – we aren’t allowed to go down over 100ft and likely won’t go deeper than 60ft in our dives.  Depths and ship lengths are supposed to be drawn to scale – given that we won’t go deep enough to leave the bright blue area. It is still fascinating on here to read what will happen at various depths – look for the depth at which a bike tire would pop, a champagne cork would be forced back into a bottle and the depth where a hole in a scuba tank would result in water coming into the tank not air going out.

Overall – that’s pretty neat.
