Participating artists have created an art gallery on wheels, with imaginative designs that include imagery of riders on the bus, historic views of Raleigh, whimsical dinosaurs, robots and monsters, and a typographic portrayal of Sir Walter Raleigh.
On the way out of the fairgrounds we saw these little guys playing outside the pond. Stopped long enough to grab a few shots. I don’t think the mother geese (father geese?) were too thrilled about it but it made for some reasonably good pictures.
The Got to be NC Festival celebrates all things North Carolina and what is more North Carolina than antique tractors. Well – I can think of a few things but the tractors were pretty awesome. With rides, concessions and a overwhelming sampling of North Carolina made products this event is becoming a mini-fair in the spring. Check it out today and tomorrow if you can and don’t miss your chance to win the antique Ford tractor to the right. I’m [...]
Losing daylight fast we went over to Carter-Finley for a few quick shots around the stadium and the massive statue outside. We’ll be back this fall for some game action but till this is as close as you can get to the Pack.
The entrance to the Neuse River Trail at Anderson Point Park officially opened last month and just a short drive from the house it is a great place to go for a bike ride. Friday night we rode to the trail about 9 miles round-trip.
What did you do Saturday morning? Probably didn’t hike over six miles in your local state park following orange squares on trees like ET followed Reese’s Pieces with much less peanut butter. Yes – hiking will make you hungry.

Snoopy the Astronaut? We caught him in several places and wondered about the significance. The Silver Snoopy award is a special honor awarded to NASA employees and contractors for outstanding achievements related to human flight safety or mission success. The award certificate states that it is “In Appreciation” “For professionalism, dedication and outstanding support that greatly enhanced space flight safety and mission success.” The award depicts Snoopy, a character from the Peanuts comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz. The [...]
Yes – we got up at 2:30AM to watch SpaceX’s Dragon launch across the early morning sky. There really isn’t much I could say about it – I am as speechless now as I was when I saw Atlantis launch two years ago. If there was a way to share this experience with more people there would be a huge priority shift from dropping bombs on sand castles to exploring what lies beyond Earth’s atmosphere. The sights, sounds and feelings [...]
Almost two years ago a few friends in Raleigh rented an RV and headed South on a trip to see one of the last shuttle launches (STS-132). I know – I probably talk about it all the time. If the first trip was “To Infinity and Beyond” this one is Infinity behind the scenes. At the close of the shuttle program the Vehicle Assembly Building is open for tours for the first time in almost three decades. Currently the building [...]
Space City, USA – Titusville, FL. So far I’ve lost count of the number of space shuttles I’ve seen around town. We wanted seafood and got a tip on this restaurant in town – Dixie Crossroads. Very good – very cool place with a wide variety of local seafood and dinosaur (alligator is considered a dinosaur – right?). After taking pictures of alligators for two days we figured eating some ribs was the right thing to do. They were surprisingly [...]
LEGO CUUSOO is a site where you can share LEGO set concepts you’d like the whole world to enjoy and aim for their eventual release as real products. As products reach 10,000 votes they get evaluated by Lego and could be a future set selling online and in the Lego store. So I think this set is pretty cool and I would buy it if it landed in the store – it only needs 2,338 more votes. So go vote. [...]
